Less than three months after I was hired to man a cubicle for the first time in my life, I heard people throughout the office weeping openly. I’m in my mid 40s, so the fact that this was my first grunt job is a bit strange. The truth is, I have been self employed most of my life, and I was ill prepared for the “The Office.” Not the kind like those funny guys on TV, but the usual, cubicle-laden type office.
The weeping I was hearing was coming from one of the vice presidents, one of the first people I connected with in the business. He, along with about 40 others had been laid off without warning. The feeling throughout the office was sickening, like a death pall. Two people from each department business networking groups johannesburg were let go. It was part of a “merger” we were told.
FOLLOW-UP! This is very, very, very important. Write reminders on the back of the business cards you’ve collected (ex. great smile, knows Prospect Z). Send out follow-up notes the next day. Be the one to make the calls for those lunches you promised to do. Make things happen. This is where the champions come through.
networking groups is another great way to exchange ideas and share your content. A few network members believe “networking” means advertising your home business to all the other members. That’s as boring as someone who comes to a party just to talk about themselves. Ugh! Who wants to really listen? Too bad we don’t use more “trading of knowledge” and “sharing ideas and resources”. I believe we all might just achieve a little bit more with the “un-advertising” technique. True, you won’t gain a lot of sales and become rich through networking, but you can gain more knowledge and resources, find partners, get referrals and more through networking in the right manner.
Surround software defined networking yourself with optimistic supportive people. Misery may love company, but this is not the time to commiserate. You need to remain focused, positive, and inspired.
This just cannot be true. Okay we have all been scammed or have failed somewhere along the way through life. This causes one to build a wall or have a huge defense mechanism that is constantly scanning for scams. We just do not want to be ripped off again. By having this mentality, it tends to hold you back from believing what you read which actually can be true.
Remember that networking is an ongoing process, one that should be worked on daily. You will need to build a rapport with your contacts you are asking for help from and make sure you reciprocate assistance when you can. Keep records or some type of spreadsheet to monitor contact visits, effective and responsiveness, and any notes or tips gained from these contacts. Navigating through these networking tips will definitely expedite your job search.
